Amazon customers in the Phoenix metro area will soon be able to have their orders delivered by drones.
Following a successful rollout of the Amazon drone delivery service in College Town, Texas, and Lockeford, Calif., in 2022, Amazon has announced that metro Phoenix is the next location for its Prime Air drone deliveries.
According to Amazon, Prime Air drone deliveries will begin in Arizona later this year to serve the West Valley of the Phoenix metro area out of Amazon’s same-day delivery site in Tolleson. It will be the first location where Prime Air drones deploy near an Amazon same-day delivery site, allowing Prime Air services in Phoenix to be fully integrated into Amazon’s delivery network and get millions of orders to customers even quicker.
Prime Air service in the West Valley is set to go live in late 2024 after Amazon receives all necessary approvals to conduct drone deliveries from Tolleson officials and the Federal Aviation Administration. Once approved, Prime Air drones will deliver customers’ items in less than an hour.
In the midst of rolling out its drone delivery service in Phoenix, Amazon is conducting flight tests on its new MK30 drone, which features updated safety features that will enable the drone to deliver packages to smaller backyards and in more densely populated suburban areas. The MK30 drone is also quieter and can travel twice as far and through a larger variety of weather conditions than Amazon’s current Prime Air drone. The MK30 drone will begin making deliveries later this year, according to Amazon.
Amazon says it will share photos and videos of its progress and will continue to learn from customers and the communities it serves. Amazon customers can register to be notified when drone delivery is available in the West Valley here. To learn more, visit aboutamazon.com.
