in the past these descriptions were standard, but now, there no longer seems to be one set-in-stone definition to determine what luxury is. No longer can something be considered luxury just based on cost and desire.

I asked many people about their definition of luxury and everyone seemed to have similar answers. First, responses included things like a special dress, piece of jewelry, vacation or maybe that overpriced automobile. Then, when asked to really think about it, the answer frequently became: doing things that bring enjoyment to yourself and others while spending time with the ones we love the most. 

This time of year we find ourselves extremely busy, going from one event to another and another…and another. Sometimes, we have to leave behind the ones we love most—our family or partners. These time commitments are a challenge for many of us and I have experienced this first hand: being asked to attend a great event and wanting to please people by saying yes.

We have solved this dilemma.

Instead of attending the event, see what people wore (or should not have worn) at the hottest events this season, from the comfort of your home. You do not have to be at all the parties,―AZFoothills.com will be there for you! We’ll take you inside new events each and every day with brand new updates and photos on our Web site.

  Before attending any event, you’ll want to know what to wear and we have that covered in the AFM Style Files blog, updated daily. Need times and locations of events? We also have detailed calendar info on AZFoothills.com.

I want to personally say thank you for the support given to me and my staff during this very challenging year. The feedback on the new look of the magazine has been terrific and we promise to be the best in the Valley, each and every day.

Now here is my definition of luxury: Spending time doing what you really want to do, with who you really want to be with; being healthy and happy.

A morning with Dr. Diethrich can save your life!

Every day i hear that people are more stressed than ever; family, friends and clients everywhere. This past year I have seen and experienced it myself. I have seen close friends pass away and more friends being rushed to the emergency room, thinking they may be having a heart attack too. It’s been happening to people as young as their 20’s. The world has changed and people are working more hours for less dollars, and I’m seeing their lives being affected first hand. There is just about nobody out there that doesn’t know someone who has lost a job, taken a salary cut or taken furlough days. It is a fact that we are all dealing with, but it can cause enormous amounts of stress.

Just Google It

When school started in august, my 7-year-old son came to me with a very funny question: “Dad, did they have Google when you were young?” I replied, “Of course not. Google is only about 10 years old.” Then he goes on to ask, “Why do we need school if we can Google everything?”

Hot Time, Summer in the City

There is nobody in the valley who would tell you honestly that July is their favorite month here. That’s why we save our vacation days for summer and take off to cooler places as much as possible. This year, however, it seems that most families will take a few weekend trips, but forgo the lengthy summer holiday away—leaving them in town for most of these hot, hot days. But July in the Valley doesn’t have to be all bad, since there is much to take advantage of, if you literally look on the bright side.

For the Kids

Since February of this year, I have watched as a dear friend of mine has spent nearly everyday in and out of the hospital caring for her 2-year-old daughter with neuroblastoma, a rare form of cancer. Until personally affected, I had not really understood how specific and unique children’s medicine can be and how different it is compared to adult healthcare.
