Bill and Carla Howey have been teaching acting classes since 1980. They started out in Los Angeles working for Milton Katselas at the Beverly Hills Playhouse. See ABOUT BILL HOWEY and ABOUT CARLA HOWEY.
After 5 years at the Beverly Hills Playhouse they opened their own studio in Culver City, CA. Because they got the sailing bug they bought a sailboat and spent almost a year sailing the coast of Mexico. Sold the boat and opened a small studio in Burbank, CA on Victory Ave.
Carla’s mother became ill and Bill and Carla and their son, Steve, moved to Denver, Colorado. They taught acting in Denver for 12 years. While in Denver they wrote and produced three independent movies. Their first movie, CLASS, was shown at the Denver International Film Festival.
They also wrote and published The Actor’s Menu: A Character Preparation Handbook. Bill wrote the book and Carla established her own publishing company, Compass Publishing, and published the book on Adobe In Design CS4. See THE ACTORS MENU.
By this time their son, an actor, was working on the WB sitcom, REBA. He played the character, VAN, for 6 years. Bill and Carla moved back to Los Angeles and opened another acting studio. They taught scene study in LA for 10 years. They taught four Advance/Intermediate classes, a Beginner class and a Teen class. They loved every minute of it and had many students go on to establish themselves as working actors.
As much at they loved their studio and all their students it came time to slow things down and not work so hard. In July of 2016 they moved away from LA to Chandler, Arizona. They now have established a new studio in Mesa and are looking forward to helping the actors in the Phoenix area to create more believable, vulnerable and personal characters.
