Dry, damaged, lifeless, brittle hair? Sounds like the beginning of a shampoo commercial. Or in my case the reality that summer has indeed arrived. With swimming, blow drying, flat ironing, and of course the sun is it really possible to maintain healthy, shiny hair all summer long?
Not to mention my losing battle to keep the same hair color from May until August.
So, what are our options if we want to continue lounging by the pool with our girlfriends, enjoying family barbeques at the park and styling our hair everyday?
Here are a few tips and products that will allow you to continue enjoying all your favorite summer activities without damaging those beautiful tresses.
Fekkai ‘Marine Summer Hair’ Smooth Sailing Anti-Frizz Cream is a great option before heading out to the beach or pool. This cream will seal moisture in while defending against UV rays, humidity, saltwater and chlorine. Plus it will keep your sexy beach waves frizz-free.
Phyto Plage Protective Sun Veil is a lightweight shine that will leave your hair soft and shiny while protecting your hair from harmful UV rays. It also helps to defend against free radicals… making it a must-have year-round.
For those of us who just might be addicted to flat irons, blow dryers, and curling irons it is best to use a heat protectant product before styling. Chi 44 Iron Guard is a weightless spray that protects hair against even the hottest styling tools.
Macadamia Natural Healing Oil Treatment is a must-have for color treated hair. Its natural UV protection extends the life of color treatments and can even be added to any hair mask… which also happens to bring me to my next and final tip.
Now, although I don’t expect you to use all of these hair products every time you want to step outside your door, nor is it necessary, I do think that a good hair mask is a must. Kiehl’s Olive Fruit Oil Deeply Repairative Hair Pak contains avocado and olive fruit oil, which strengthens, hydrates, and restores shine. It only takes 10 minutes and it smells delicious! During the summer months it is a good idea to do a hair mask once a week.
Now that you have been armed with the proper tools, you can enjoy your summer lounging by the pool or sunning on the beach (with proper SPF of course) knowing that come fall your hair will be healthier, shinier, and softer than before.
