One of the best parts of being a makeup artist is getting to jet off to a variety of locales. Though I must confess airport security has put rather a damper in my ability to easily pack and go. Often it takes hours to whittle down my overflowing makeup kit into just the right amount of products to get the job done successfully. This week I’ve been spending a little time in one of my old haunts: San Diego, which to me is the perfect blend of laid back beach town and California cosmopolitan. Even better is the opportunity to go from downtown to coastal in just minutes. On our roster a handsome bronzed Irish surfer boy (yes I did mean Irish) with a few too many sun kissed streaks gracing in his lovely brown locks.
Though the client was immensely found of his look they feared that his uber highlighted look might not rest swimmingly with the general masses so I was set on task to temporarily darken his shade without looking false.
After scoping out the nearest mall I rediscovered Oscar Blandi Pronto Color Root Touch Up and Highlighting Pen. The chocolately brown shade did just the trick to blend his streaks to perfection. Of course the real reason for this magic wand is to cover roots and touch up gray between visits. It comes in a variety of shades and looks super natural. www.bluemercury.com
Other products I love for those less than perfect hair days is the Frederic Fekkai Oceanique Tousled Hair Spray. It gives hair amazing texture without weighing it down. www.sephora.com
Plus one of my favorite all time go-to brands Kiehl’s has expanded their “Stylist Series” line of must have hair products that includes de-frizzing gels, hair sprays and volumizers to fix any hair disasters that come your way. Most are available in small or gigantic sizes to meet any hair obsessions. Of course I can’t live without my Cream with Silk Groom. Just a tad works on every hair type to smooth and add shine. Kiehls is available online www.kiehls.com or Neiman Marcus stores. And while you’re at it check out the body products to keep skin hydrated through the parched-skin inducing winter season.
And if you don’t have time for a fresh washing, never fear Neil George makes a yummy lime scented dry shampoo that gives hair that beachy fresh feel without a lot of effort, not to mention…in a major pinch you can skip two days without any serious bad hair day repercussions. www.neilgeorgesalon.com
My thin hair has never allowed me a day without shampoo. I wish i could though.
That pen looks amazing–I have several grays that I’d like to hide!
I use a dry shampoo called Shampowder. it comes in multiple shades and a totally cool little applicator. I use it all the time. it smells so yummers! I got mine at target.com.
