Arizona State University has announced a new partnership with the Los Angeles Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. The two institutions have linked up to provide more opportunities to students aspiring to make a splash in the fashion world.
To celebrate their new partnership, the Herberger Institute for Design and Arts at ASU will now be renamed ASU FIDM, and students may enroll at either campus in California or Arizona. The new collaborative program provides students with access to renowned faculty who have extensive experience within the fashion industry.
Before starting at ASU FIDM, students pick from a variety of creative fields to study. From dance and theater to digital culture and fashion, the unique program enables students to have a sustainable and creative impact on the world.
This is not the first time ASU has ventured into Southern California. In 2022, ASU opened its California Center campus to allow students to connect with Los Angeles companies and professionals. The program provides students with the time to connect with future employers and recognizable brands, such as Nike, PacSun, The Walt Disney Company, Anthropologie, Converse, Pixar, NBC Universal and more.
“Leveraging FIDM’s and ASU’s expertise in innovation around fashion and the creative industries will create significantly enhanced opportunities for students,” says Steven Tepper, dean and director of the Herberger Institute for Design and Arts at ASU.
“Giving aspiring creative professionals the chance to study at a global research university vastly expands their choices and their ability to contribute to a fast-growing industry,” says Tepper. “I am confident that ASU FIDM can lead the world in educating for the future of an inclusive, sustainable and socially responsible fashion industry.”
