The next time you peer into your closet and exasperatingly say, “I have nothing to wear!” you might want to take another look.
According to a survey conducted by VoucherCloud, the average woman has about $550 of unworn clothing in her closet.
The survey studied the shopping habits of 2,137 women, who admitted to never having worn at least 20 percent of the items in their closets. Shoes and coats were the most popular items to be eschewed.
When asked why these items were never worn, 75 percent said they preferred other options instead; 51 percent cited disapproval from a partner or friends; and 39 percent said that they simply just “couldn’t be bothered” to make a return.
In the spirit of spring cleaning, it’s worthwhile to carve out some time to take a quick inventory of your closet before your next shopping trip. That way, you can avoid duplicating (and paying twice) for an item that you already have. For those pieces that you no longer want or just can’t see yourself wearing, donate or exchange your clothes for some cash or trade at a local consignment shop, like Buffalo Exchange or My Sister’s Closet.
