Like me, many of you watched the over three hour long Oscar telecast last night waiting on the edge of your seat to see if the land of Pandora would bring home a gold statue, or if Sandra would really trump Meryl? Would Mo’Nique walk home as expected with the man? And maybe also like me you were just as interested in the dresses and makeup and hair as the actual awards themselves. Well I can say with delight that there were hardly any major fashion wrecks… but there were a few (of course that’s for later in the week) but there were hardly any surprises either, everyone pretty much looked gorgeous! In some ways I miss the days when everything wasn’t so safe and when many A-listers didn’t have a stylist making sure they would never land on the worst dressed list, but having said that the stylists were right on target last night. Even Meryl normally a tad more conservative wreaked of Halston-esque elegance in her white gown by Project Runway alum Chris March!
My personal favorites of the evening were Sandra Bullock and Sara Jessica Parker. Sandra looked unbelievably amazing in her gold beaded Marchesa with embroidery and lace which went perfectly with her own Neil Lane diamonds and the perfect pop of pink lipstick. It was her moment… and she looked flawless!
Sara Jessica Parker always sets the bar as high as it can go, this girl is all about “the look” she was reminiscent of a star from the late sixties like Elizabeth Taylor with her amazing updo and incredible pale yellow Chanel dress with silver detail on the collar. And I for one loved the messy little wispy hairs that seemed to be cropping up throughout the evening on a myriad of celebrity mops.
Jennifer Lopez just rocked the pink Armani Prive with the sculptural waist detail and gossamer train, while Amanda Seyfred touted a seafoam Armani as well with a gorgeous train. Both were stunning, fresh and perfectly fitted.
Though many thought Zoe Saldana’s Givenchy dress was about as unusual as the world of Pandora I found it to be rather mesmerizing and it showed of her sinewy figure amazingly. The pale lilac into deep royal purple ombre’ ruffles were incredible and truly could not have been more Haute Couture, she looked like she just stepped off the runway.
I also loved Kate Winslets YSL gunmetal colored dress, she looked as if she had been poured right into it, as it perfectly hugged every curve. Just breathtaking!
And street chic kitten Kristen Stewart managed to shirk off her devil may care casual look by showing up in a jaw dropping Monique Lhullier tulip dress. The hair and makeup were completely Academy Award worthy!
There were so many amazing dresses to mention but they will have to wait until tomorrow as we count down some of the fabulous over forties as well.
That Givenchy was stunning!
