Birkenstock is celebrating the anniversaries of its three most iconic sandals with a limited-edition capsule collection that refashions the sandal trio with their original elements and designs for its spring/summer 2023 campaign.
Arguably one of the most timeless shoe manufacturers and designers, Birkenstock has built a legacy of comfortable and lasting footwear with its flexible, yet durable, cork insoles designed to last and shape around each individual’s feet over time.
Since first introducing these unique insoles to the public in 1774, the German shoe brand has released a variety of footwear with the traditional Birkenstock insoles, including its three most iconic sandals: the Madrid, Arizona and Gizeh.
Dubbed as “the mother of all footbed sandals,” the Madrid is the first sandal with the orthopedic footbed to enter the Birkenstock family. The classic, one-strap sandal was released in 1963 with a design inspired by the aesthetic of Brutalist architecture and has continued to be among the brand’s most popular sandals for more than half a decade. In celebration of the sandal’s 60th anniversary, Birkenstock is releasing 1,963 pairs of the Madrid in its spring/summer capsule collection that will be offered in new seasonal colors of brown, pigalle red and emerald green.
Ten years after the release of the Madrid, Birkenstock launched the Arizona, which won the hearts and feet of people in the ‘70s and remains the brand’s best-selling model. Featuring two straps and a rounded toe, the Arizona is one of the most recognizable sandals in the Birkenstock family. The Birkenstock capsule collection will feature 1,973 pairs of the popular sandal in black and white in honor of its 50th anniversary.
The final sandal of the iconic trio is the Gizeh, a unique model that differs from the Madrid and Arizona due to its thong sandal design. Released in 1983, the Gizeh is one of the most versatile Birkenstock models with a range of color offerings, including gold and silver. To celebrate 40 years since its release, Birkenstock is releasing 1,983 pairs of the Gizeh available in new colors, including brown, beige and dark red.
Birkenstock’s exclusive and strictly-limited capsule collection has been released globally and is available now on the Birkenstock website. Each pair of the three models are numbered individually and are packaged in a specific box special to the capsule collection. The launch also features a free pair of Birkenstock socks with every purchase that pay homage to the brand’s history with a vintage design.
