Fashion week is wrapping up in New York with designs that will set the trends and most coveted looks for spring. If you happened to miss out on all the magic (or is it madness?) of fashion week, get up to speed in less than five minutes with our quick recap of the best highlights from the runways of NYFW S/S16.
Face Jewelry & Romance at Givenchy
This season marks the very first time that the Parisian fashion house staged its show in New York. Celebrating his 10th anniversary at Givenchy, designer Riccardo Tisci presented a whimsical spring collection of romantic, flowing gowns, lace slips and chemise dresses that richly contrasted in black and white to a front row attended by the likes of Julia Roberts, Uma Thurman and the Kardashian-West clan. For beauty, gold or lace appliqué face masks decorated with crystals provided a nice complement to Givenchy’s hardware-heavy face jewelry masks from fall.
Tommy Hilfiger Hits the Boardwalk
The spring show at Tommy Hilfiger was all about a perfect beach day. Sun-kissed models like Gigi Hadid, Hailey Baldwin and Taylor Hill paraded down a lagoon catwalk in relaxed pieces from a suede track suit and flirty sundress to the perfect crocheted bikini.
Bohemian Supermodels at Diane von Furstenberg
Modern-day supermodels, like Karlie Kloss, Kendall Jenner, Lily Aldrige and Gigi Hadid rocked Diane von Furstenberg’s ‘70s-themed runway in easy-breezy metallics and colorful prints that celebrated the 40th anniversary of the iconic wrap dress. The revival of the one-shoulder dress paired with a beauty look of glimmering lids and disco curls was a nod to the glamorous Studio 54 party days of yore.
Mansur Gavriel Does Footwear
Mansur Gavriel – the label that instigated the overnight sensation of the minimalist leather bucket bag – introduced its first line of footwear at NYFW. From sandals to mules, the shoes come in four simple styles with a range of heel heights in vibrant colors of suede or the brand’s signature smooth untanned leather. Four new bag styles were also presented in colorful prints – the Moon Clutch, the Flat Clutch, the Volume Clutch and Circle bag – which will be available exclusively at Barneys.
Glamorous Reinvention at Oscar de la Renta
Peter Copping proved himself yet again at Oscar de la Renta with a stunning spring collection that stayed true to the late designer’s aesthetic, while showcasing his own youthful style and exquisite attention to detail. The show began with a breathtaking ruby red jacquard dress and jacket (second version seen above), followed by a parade of gorgeous fairytale gowns in Chantilly lace, organza and tulle.
