The Lily Pulitzer brand may be known for its bright, cheeky prints, but did you know this classic has been around for 50 years?? Crazy. When I further looked into it, I realized the brand has an equally fun story behind it too, and we all love a good story!
New York socialite Lily Pulitzer moved with her husband down to Palm Beach in the 1950’s. She was worked a juice stand and furstrated with the stains she constantly got on her dresses, she asked her dressmaker to make a bright, colorful shift that would disguise all the stains. And yes, that’s how it all began.
Lily’s juice customers loved her dress so she started to sell them at the juice stand. She stopped selling juices, started designing her signature colorful shifts and soon the world became a fan.
It’s no doubt Lily Pulitzer is a classic American lifestyle brand. And this year, the brand is celebrating its 50th anniversary. The Lily Pulitzer 50th Anniversary Jubilee kicked off this past November and this Thursday, March 5, there will be an honorary tribute and historical fashion retrospective exhibit of the Lily Pulitzer brand. The exhibit focuses on the impact of the Lily Pulitzer brand throughout the past 50 years and will be shown in a series of tableaux. Vintage designs as well as archival photographs will also be on display. Oh, and did I mention there will be a fashion show too?
The event will be hosted at Pink Paradise at The Borgata at Scottsdale and include both the retrospective exhibit and the fashion show. Anyone who attends wearing Lily Pulitzer will receive a special gift. And, with any purchase made of $500, you’ll receive a limited-edition Jubilee scarf. Plus, a portion of proceeds from the event will be donated to Hospice of the Valley.
So now that you know where you’re going and what you’re doing Thursday night, what to wear??? Here, a few Lily items that will make you feel like a spring break getaway.
I heart this Lily sparkly cuff, it’s darling.
This Lily print top is bright and fun. Would be cute with a pair of dark denim jeans.
And when it comes to spring, you can’t go wrong with a classic pair of wide-leg white pants.
This Lily Pulitzer navy blue dress would be cute with a pair of flats.
This cropped jean is so cute for spring. And the dark denim wash is easy to dress up.
Wow, I had no idea the brand started with Lily selling her juicing dresses! It’s a great story. I’m going to look into those white pants as well…I don’t have any and I love wide-leg.
