Louis Vuitton has quietly released a new line of hyper luxury handbags.
First spotted down the spring 2014 runway, five new alligator and crocodile bags were added to Vuitton’s website this week. The collection, which ranges in price from $20,000 to $40,000, features classic bucket bags, top-handles and shoulder bags in exotic leathers. Decorative additions of Swarovski crystals and peacock and pheasant feathers were also seen on the bags down the runway.
Vuitton is looking to target the luxury customer with the new line, in the hopes of increasing the brand’s sales, which have recently been declining. Indeed, the structured luxury bags are a stark contrast from Vuitton’s popular, yet ubiquitous, monogram leather collection that is more accessible to the “masstige” market.
Even though the bags are viewable online, they can only be purchased at Louis Vuitton brick and mortar stores.
