On Monday I recapped some of the best looks from the 2013 bridal collections. As mentioned , when I work on a bride my favorite part of the day is not only her reaction when she sees herself for the first time but also taking a peek at that beautiful dress.
Sometimes you can peg what a dress will look like just from hearing and seeing what the other elements of the day will be. And most brides choose their makeup and hair look to compliment the dress… but occasionally I am surprised to see what some lovely ladies heading down the aisle will choose… in a good way of course.
At the time of my wedding the full princess dress was the most prevalent but I just couldn’t see clumsy me toting around that voluminous fabric all night, so I opted for something custom made that was much more subdued with barely even a train and no embellishments to speak of. Today I am thrilled that there are so many choices for brides to be. Here are some more of the looks that caught my eye:
Badgley Mischka went with a more relaxed aesthetic highlighting satin slip dresses and silk halter versions along with more traditional gown with tulle trim. I especially loved these two looks that reminded me of the gorgeous costumes that Reese Witherspoon wore in Water for Elephants. So simple, yet so stunning.
Izaac Mizrahi always knows how to interject a healthy dose of fun and playfulness into everything he does and his new collection for Kleinfeld’s is no exception. Touches of black and blush add a dramatic pop to the clean and stark lines of his white gowns. But even better there are a few gown in just blush and just black… could this be a nod to his fellow New Yorker Sarah Jessica Parker who wore a black cocktail dress for her nuptials with Matthew Broderick years ago.
Reem Acra always leaves me wanting more. And this collection was just too good… illusion sleeves, bit of embroidery, tiered and tulle skirts, even some that were removable. How is that for the bride that wants a little variety for her reception. Heaven! I could even picture these looks on the red carpet come awards season. After all we know what a stunning statement that clean shock of white can be in a sea of paparazzi flashbulbs… Rachel Zoe has taught us nothing if not that!
