If you have logged on to any one social media outlet within the last 24 hours then you know that the big talk about town (or maybe better stated around the world wide web) is that Target and Neiman Marcus have teamed up. If you thought that the whole Missoni for Target bit got out of control, we can only guess what the limited edition 50-piece Holiday Collaboration will bring—the holiday season and 24 of the top American designers are the only two ingredients you need for the best holiday madness.
Of course don’t get me wrong; this isn’t entirely bad, if at all. It will no doubt encourage spending, give the masses the opportunity to own something from their favorite designer at a more reasonable price, and Target and Neiman Marcus will be donating $1 million to the Council Of Fashion Designers of America.
“I can think of no better finale to CFDA’s 50th Anniversary celebration than through this extraordinary designer collaboration,” said CFDA President Diane von Furstenberg. “As designers, creativity is our best gift, and with the generous support of Neiman Marcus and Target, we are happy to have created specially designed products as a thank you to share with our consumers and friends.”
All of the 24 designers who created pieces for the collection are CFDA members:
Alice + Olivia, Altuzarra, Band of Outsiders, Brian Atwood, Carolina Herrera, Derek Lam, Diane von Furstenberg, Eddie Borgo, Jason Wu, Judith Leiber, Lela Rose, Marchesa, Marc Jacobs, Oscar de la Renta, Philip Crangi, Prabal Gurung, Proenza Schouler, Rag & Bone, Robert Rodriguez, Rodarte, Skaist-Taylor, Thom Browne, Tory Burch, Tracy Reese
With a list like this, your gifts are bound to be everyone’s favorite (we can only hope for an affordable Marc Jacobs bag and sexy Brian Atwood stilettos). Of course not all of the pieces will be that of fashion. According to the Target press release, “The designers were given the freedom to explore categories they felt strongly about—some chose to create products that fall in their area of “expertise,” while others took this as an opportunity to explore an entirely new category. What results is an unforgettable collaboration that we can’t wait for you to see.”
The collection will range in price from $7.99 to $499.99, with most items less than $60. Now that I can afford! The big unveil will take place on October 16th with gifts hitting Target shelves on December 1st (you should probably start camping out now…).
