Being that I work with color all the time whether it’s clothing or makeup shades one might think that my closet would be filled with colorful clothing options, and really when it comes to surrounding myself with colors such as wall paint, pillows rugs etc I have rarely met a color I didn’t like. But when it comes to the way I dress… it’s all about black, white and a few other neutrals. So this week when I was told that I must wear bright colors for the taping of a beauty segment I was a little perplexed. You see the only colors that I own (besides the aforementioned ones) are a few green and blue tee’s and dresses. Unfortunately I may be filming in front of a green screen in which case no green or blue is allowed. Yikes!
And thus began my journey into finding doable garments of pink, purple, teal and red. I mean this can’t be so hard right? Everyone else wears colors right? And this season jewel tones are abundant. So off I went to the mall debit card firmly in hand.
After combing what felt like a thousand racks in miscellaneous stores, I headed over to Banana Republic. As I entered the front doors I felt like Pee Wee Herman in that famous scene from Pee Wee’s Big Adventure when he loses his beloved bicycle “Big Red” suddenly it seems that every person he passes on the street is on their bike, laughing and loving life. For me all I could see in Banana Republic were shades of gray, cream and black…okay, this is not a job for the faint of heart… man up woman and start finding some pink and purple!!! So here were my picks from BR.
First off this faux wrap dress in teal (not navy as shown here). Yes teal, I haven’t worn that color since the 80’s but I have to say I felt pretty good about it…and this cut is the perfect day to evening piece that can be dressed up or down.
Then I added a shot of berry and purple shades with these great silky cami’s one billowy and one with ruffles. I have to say they do look absolutely perfect with a black cardigan!
To round out my Banana Republic purchases I have to say I loved this purple cardigan with the ribbon detail. This will be a great piece for fall and winter to spice up any of my neutrals.
Then I was on to J Crew. I immediately gravitated towards the sequin pencil skirt that I have been eyeing last week while pulling clothes for a shoot. This little number is sexy and practical at the same time because it work just as well with a casual tee or button up as it does with a silky evening blouse.
And lastly this sweet violet cardigan. Though the cardigan isn’t necessarily camera appropriate, by this point in my trip I was feeling rather adventurous and I could picture it with a loose fitting tee and my favorite skinny jeans.
