It always happens around this time of year, the daytime temps are warm enough to want to test drive the latest Spring looks but it’s also just cold enough morning and evening to stay in your tights and boots. Though I didn’t set any resolutions earlier this month, surely my latest chocolate ganache cake episode doesn’t count for even coming close to my goal of cutting down on junk food, so rather than my clothes falling off of my lithe body by the dawning of Spring, I fear that I will need a plan B to buy some roomier more comfy items.
Last week during an out of town styling gig I of course felt compelled not only to shop for my clients, but in the name of good blogging I felt it my duty to check out some of the latest and best looks for Spring. And take a peek at the styling tips from Who What Wear…they’re right on it as always.
One of the things that I absolutely clamor for and am glad to see emerging again this season is the peep-toe bootie. I know that far too many find it an absolute oxymoron, but I say it is probably one of the most functional shoes a warm weather girl can possess. Not to mention that my PTB’s are the only shoes that don’t pummel my toes into submission after an evening of mix and mingling.
Aldo has some fabulous options this season that are super affordable in both flat and heeled versions. www.aldo.com
But I also love these Elizabeth and James sliced booties at Saks Fifth Ave.
Somehow Khaki always looks fresh in the Springtime and this year a well fitting kahki shirtdress is a great addition to any wardrobe. Plus you don’t have to settle for those boring baggy styles of years past. This season try cinching your dress with a little belt like this BCBG number.
Though I generally shun shorts I am finding the latest little short suits are absolutely fabulous this season. Of course getting it right take a bit of caution, please my dear, don’t buy shorts that are too short, pick pieces that you could actually wear to an office if the dress code allowed and pair them with a reasonable heel not ones that look like you just left your nighttime gig at the bar. the Rosemary Shorts and Jacket from Marc Jacobs are delish!
Lastly try wearing florals in unexpected places, like a sweet little sheer blouse under a blazer or how about a perfectly fitting floral blazer itself? Be sure to pick pieces with great tailoring not a slouchy or boxy fit otherwise it will look like you borrowed from your Mom’s 80’s stash. And be sure to pair florals with simple accessories to keep things balanced. I love this super feminine piece from Free People.
I am not sure how I feel about floral
