It’s that time of year again, when pro golfers, like top-ranked U.S. golfer Brandt Snedeker and Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama, hit the green at the 2014 Waste Management Phoenix Open in Scottsdale.
If the current weather is any indication, temps will probably hover within the 70s when the tour kicks off on Jan. 27 and ends a week later on Feb. 2. The sunny weather and crisp breezes call for a sporty yet casual ensemble, where comfort and mobility is key.
First off, choose a sensible pair of shoes that won’t have you sinking in the grass (read: no stilettos). Try a sporty pair of trainers such as New Balance for J.Crew 620 Sneakers or a versatile pair of flats or sandals. If you absolutely need some extra height, opt for sturdy wedges that can hold their own, like these Jimmy Choos.
For an outfit, pair a cute sundress, like Free People’s Cha Cha Dropwaist Fit and Flare, with a loose cardigan that you can easily take on or off, depending on the weather. Add a floppy hat, like this one from Top Shop and/or some shades for an effortlessly chic look.
If a dress isn’t for you, choose a bottom that allows some breathing room since you’ll be moving around a lot outside. Think tailored shorts, loose pants or an easy-going skirt that’s not a mini, like Anthropologie’s Coquelicot Skirt. Top it all off with a loose-fitted knit or oxford tied at the waist.
Lastly, don’t forget to have fun with choosing your outfit. Flirt with color and play around with fun patterns to create a look that stands out on the green.
