Obsessions – The Row Fall 09

Yes it’s September, a magical month in fashion, our stack of magazines though they may have landed weeks ago are chock full of who’s what’s and wear’s and what to buy, store, keep for the upcoming season. I for one can never get enough… in the words of Carrie Bradshaw: “When I first moved to New York and I was totally broke, sometimes I bought Vogue instead of dinner. I found it fed me more.” Enough said dear.

Although we are all watching our wallets and often (arms twisted) trying to make better choices, sometimes a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do. My mother and grandmother were masters at working a dime… they would invest in really good pieces and take ultra care of them, but the modern girl, we have our cravings and have no fear of excess,
only to toss these fashion droppings away when Harpers or W says buy- bye. So in all this newfangled wisdom, how does a girl splurge on her absolute obsessions?

Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen

I for one am choosing my obsessions wisely…. Call me crazy but I am completely over the moon for Mary Kate and Ashley’s The Row. When it first made it’s debut back in 07 fashionista’s everywhere waited with overly latte’d anticipation, would this new line have any inkling of the formerly floral Olsen-twins Walmart selves? The answer…Not in the slightest. Mary Kate and Ashley’s college days perhaps did them some good… after all these little munchkins have been in the public eye since the tender age of toddlerhood and they co-created Dualstar Entertainment a business with one goal – leverage the cutie pie sweetness of the O twins into a megalamillion dollar enterprise. At the ripe ol’ age of 18 the twinsies stepped into the driver seat of the company and while at NYU they realized that their wholesome and bright image didn’t mirror the complexities of their real life. Enter The Row consisting of mainly expensive knit tees, French cut seaming and minimalist separates like blazers, body hugging pants, leggings and skirts all in neutral never-out-of-style-shades of black, white cream and gray with an occasional burst of color.

The O girls are nothing if not savvy….They have kept their name off the brand, and use only models not themselves to hock their goods. These are the kind of pieces that serious style mavens covet.

So why would anyone buy a $300 t-shirt?…. Tailoring my darling, tailoring, these are the pieces that you buy today and keep forever…. The fabrics are exquisite, the cuts are divine and effortlessly cool. Take a peek at the Holiday/Fall collection pieces and you too might be saving your pennies for a little bit of The Row. The line is available at Bergdorf Goodmans.

  1. Yes, Diane, the age-old advice still applies here…buy the best you can afford, if only one or two pieces. My maternal ancestors taught me this at a young age too. Better to have quality rather than quantity. Thanks for the feature on The Row. Will look more into this line, as I never paid attention to the O Twins!

  2. Wow…I’m surprised I like the Olsen’s line as well. All I can think about was when my little sister would wear their Walmart clothes when she was little.

  3. I looooove The Row. Anyone see the spread with Ashley Olsen in the recent Marie-Claire? She is so adorable and fashionable.

  4. Diane you find the most amazing things ever i never watch u tube very well done video thanks for taking the time and sharing with the world.

  5. I definitely like how the pieces are interchangeable with each other and the colors are traditional. Nothing crazy or over the top. Hmm, I just may have to check their new line out.
