Fans and attendees of the Waste Management Phoenix Open are encouraged to wear green to benefit charity and support the environmentally-friendly efforts of the tournament during GREEN OUT on Saturday, February 1.
For every person who wears green, tournament host the Thunderbirds will donate some “green” of a different kind to three deserving non-profits – Arizona Recycling Coalition, the Arizona Chapter of Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) and Waste Not.
Based on an online voting contest from the tournament’s Facebook page, Waste Not will receive 50 percent of the funds, Arizona Chapter of Solid Waste Association of North America will receive 35 percent and Arizona Recycling Coalition will receive 15 percent. In 2013, GREEN OUT raised a cumulative $60,000 for three other environmental non-profit organizations.
Forget to wear green or can’t find anything in your closet? For the first time, Waste Management will sell branded green merchandise – like shirts, hats and water bottles – at the tournament store, while a tournament merchandise tent at the Open will sell souvenirs and clothing, including a cute green polo dress. You can also shop online at www.wmgreengear.com.
Take a chance at winning some green gear vouchers or passes to the Waste Management hospitality suite on 18 by participating in photo and trivia contests on Waste Management’s Facebook and Twitter pages, using the hashtag #greenestshow. Contests will be held daily during each round of the tour.
