Whether you’re in the process of redesigning your kitchen or simply love to keep up with the latest kitchen styles, the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) has released its 2024 Kitchen Trends Report, revealing the hottest kitchen design trends that will take over the heart of the home over the next three years.
Here are the kitchen trends and designs that are coming in hot in 2024, as predicted by designers, showrooms, manufacturers, remodelers, architects and other experienced professionals in the kitchen and bath industry.
Bold Colors & Textured Materials
Green is making a comeback in the kitchen for 2024 with 31% of respondents claiming it as the top color. Homeowners and designers are expected to incorporate statement colors into their kitchens, specifically on backsplashes, while cabinets, countertops, paint and wallpaper will also include statement colors.
Gold will be the star of the show for kitchen finishes in 2024. Nearly half of the survey respondents named gold as the top kitchen color, which will primarily show up on kitchen faucets and lighting fixtures. Following gold will be matte, brushed and satin for faucets and bronze and copper for lighting fixtures and sinks.
Texture will also become popular in kitchens, with over half of respondents predicting the rise of textured backsplashes. Industry professionals also expect to see high-textured wood cabinets, as well as countertops with matte textures over a glossy, smooth finish. According to the report, wood and earthy tones will be more common than the typical white style commonly found in kitchens.
Kitchen Features: Dedicated Beverage Areas, Kitchen Islands & Innovative Storage Solutions
When it comes down to specific kitchen features, 60% of respondents say a dedicated beverage area/drink storage is one of the top trends for 2024. This includes refrigeration drawers and pantries with space designed specifically for bottles and cans.
Designers are also predicting that multi-functional kitchen islands will replace kitchen tables. This allows families to eat, study and gather while opening up more space in the room. Additionally, ambient lighting for a variety of moods will become popular in kitchens, ranging from aesthetic lighting to nighttime lighting.
Storage solutions will also be a big trend in 2024, with more than 50% of respondents expecting walk-in, butler and built-in pantries. Other popular solutions include custom cabinets with dividers and workstation sinks with built-in cutting boards, drying racks and strainers. To create more sustainable kitchens, designers will also incorporate built-in recycling storage options.
Quiet Luxury Meets the Quiet & Sustainable Kitchen Appliances
Appliance trends fall under two umbrellas for 2024: quiet and sustainable. In the pursuit of creating luxurious spaces that are great for both hosting and working, designers are opting for ultra-quiet dishwashers, standard receptacles over noisy trash compactors and cabinets that slowly open and close.
Additionally, roughly half of the designers said that they would choose high-quality appliances that will last a long time, are energy efficient and conserve water. Reusing and donating home appliances for home renovations will also be a popular choice for designers and homeowners with 37% of respondents saying they have donated used appliances.
