On Monday, May 6, members of The Mirabel Club gathered at HonorHealth to present a check to the HonorHealth Research Institute (HHRI) for $420,000. Funds were raised through the Club’s annual charity classic, Hope for the Cause. In 11 years, Hope for the Cause donated nearly $3 million to the Research Institute in support of cancer research.
What began as a Ladies’ Golf outing in 2009 has grown to include men’s and ladies’ golf, a 5K and a final reception with silent and live auctions and dinner. In more recent years, the event weeks are preceded by an afternoon of presentations from the Chief Researchers at the HonorHealth Research Institute during the M4 Hour – Mirabel’s Miracles of Modern Medicine. Incredibly what was cutting edge only a few years ago is “standard practice” today, and today’s new developments weren’t even a dream a few short years ago.
Tremendous strides have been made at the Research Institute these past 11 years. And, because of the ongoing support from the Mirabel community, today, more people are celebrating birthdays, anniversaries and an extended quality of life thanks to the personalized, breakthrough treatment offered here in our community. At the check presentation on Monday, Mark Slater, Chief Executive of HHRI, recalled how the Institute is only a few years older than it’s involvement with Mirabel. As he said, “we didn’t know where this journey would take us when we began with Mirabel’s support and that of others. While dreams and hopes were high, what has been achieved is nothing short of amazing.” Whether measured in survival rates, clinical trials, or new FDA-approved drug therapies, the Institute has achieved enormous success and is now recognized around the world as a first-class cancer research organization.
Mirabel is proud to have been a small part of this success and to be viewed as family by this world class organization. Every year, on the first Monday of May for the past 11 years, Mirabel has proudly presented a check to HHRI. This year, in thanking the Community, Dr. Daniel Von Hoff, Chief Medical Officer and rarely without words, could only say that Mirabel was “Incredible” and presented the light-hearted version of “The Incredibles” shown in the photo.
Mirabel’s Hope for the Cause Charity Classic was thrilled to celebrate with the HHRI Clinical Staff on May 6 and looks forward to future first Mondays in May celebrating future check presentations. –Marilyn Woodrow
