Meet Jon, born in Ohio, listening to Boot Liquor Radio, and can’t go a day without his iPad. Read how he finished these sentences.
Name: Jon Summerfield
Age: 41
Title: Senior Developer, Nucom Web Hosting, LLC
Married/Single: Married
Kids: None
Live: Gilbert, AZ
I was born…
in Kenton, Ohio
My favorite thing about Arizona…
is it’s never too crowded. I hate waiting in lines.
I’m listening to…
Boot Liquor Radio. It’s an internet radio station that plays old country and rockabilly. Everything you’d expect to hear on a juke box at an old roadside bar.
My family…
is always there if I need them. We don’t talk or get together as often as other families but I always know they’re there if I need them and that makes me feel like I have a safety net in case I fall.
If I could have dinner with anyone, it would be…
Bill Gates. After retiring from Microsoft he could literally choose any path he could imagine from crazy recluse to politician. He decided to create his own organization to tackle the most pressing human problems from malaria and malnutrition, to faulty US education, to global warming. I’d love to talk to him about his decisions.
One thing I cannot live without…
is my iPad. I’ve only read one or two paper books in the past year. I’d rather download books so there’s always another one waiting.
When I was younger, I wanted to be…
an astronaut. Unfortunately air sickness would have made prolonged space flight a living hell.
The one person who motivates me is…
my wife. She works harder than I do and engages more people. I feel I have to live up to her example.
The perfect day would be…
scuba diving in the morning, a great lunch, and then wasting away the afternoon in a hammock.
My first job was…
stage manager at my high school.
My favorite escape…
is a good book. Even for a short time you can loose yourself in the characters and story of a great novel.
My life…
is pretty good. The fact that I have indoor plumbing makes my life better than 99.9% of everyone who’s every lived. Makes other problems seem trivial.
I’m currently working on…
an online Mediation website. Instead of taking someone to court, you submit your evidence online to a Neutral (generally a retired judge) and he decides your case. Much faster and less expensive than a full court case. It’s becoming very popular with the insurance companies.
Always…
make new friends. People come and go throughout your life. If you stop making friends eventually there’s no one to spend time with you.
Never…
send angry emails. Asynchronous communication allows you time to think before you respond. Use your time to diffuse anger or explain a misunderstanding.
Favorite Quote…
“Worrying does not empty tomorrow of its troubles, it empties today of its strength.”
Biggest Dream…
is to win the lottery. It’s a bit generic but it opens up a world of possibilities.
