AZF: What is your “life motto?”
JNK: My life motto, ‘This too shall pass,’ reminds me to stay present in all of life’s moments – both the highs and the lows. It encourages me to savor the good times, knowing they’re fleeting, and to fully appreciate them while they last. At the same time, it reassures me during tough times that they won’t last forever. This perspective helps me stay grounded, resilient, and balanced, knowing that life is full of seasons and everything, both the joyful and the challenging, is temporary.
AZF: Did you always know that you wanted to be an entrepreneur? If not, when did you realize that it was the right path right for you?
JNK: I didn’t always know that I wanted to be an entrepreneur, but I always knew that I wanted to help people. During graduate school, while working on my doctoral degree, it became clear that the best way for me to do that would be to open my own practice. I realized that by creating my own space, I could offer the kind of personalized, supportive care I envisioned, and truly make an impact on the lives of the clients I work with. That’s when I knew entrepreneurship was the right path for me.
AZF: How do you feel best supported?
JNK: I feel best supported by the love and support of my parents, Susan and Ross. They’ve always been in my corner, providing unwavering encouragement and belief in me. I truly wouldn’t be where I am today without them. Their constant presence gives me the strength and confidence to pursue my goals and face challenges head-on.
AZF: What motivates you to keep going amidst the challenges that come with being an entrepreneur?
JNK: What motivates me is the magic that happens in the therapeutic space with my clients. Witnessing their growth, breakthroughs, and transformations is incredibly rewarding and reminds me of the profound impact I can have on their lives. Each session reinforces my passion for helping others, and it fuels my commitment to creating a supportive environment where they can thrive. This connection and the progress we achieve together inspire me to overcome any obstacles I face in my entrepreneurial journey.
AZF: Describe your perfect Saturday morning.
JNK: My ideal Saturday morning starts with a leisurely wake-up, enjoying a cup of tea while watching the news and soaking in the quiet of the early hours. I love to take some time for myself, perhaps reading a good book or journaling. After that, I might go for a refreshing walk or hike in nature before heading out for a horseback ride, which is one of my favorite ways to connect with the outdoors. If I have the chance, I enjoy connecting with friends or family over brunch, sharing laughs and good conversation. It’s the perfect balance of relaxation and connection that sets a positive tone for the rest of the weekend!
AZF: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to a young entrepreneur who is just starting out?
JNK: Do it! Take the leap, do the thing, believe in yourself and trust that when you take the leap the universe will be right there to catch you.
AZF: What excites you most about being an entrepreneur?
JNK: What excites me most in the world of therapy is the freedom to create a space where clients truly feel seen, heard, and valued. I love being able to shape Katz Psychological Services into a fun, welcoming, and non-traditional environment that breaks the mold of the typical clinical setting. The ability to design bespoke therapeutic experiences that fit the unique needs of each client, while encouraging them to live authentically, is incredibly fulfilling. As an entrepreneur, I get to continually evolve my practice, building something that truly reflects my passion for helping people thrive in a way that feels true to them.
