AZF: What is your “life motto?”
KF: “If your dreams don’t scare you, they’re not big enough.” When we were contemplating starting our own company, this is the quote that gave us the confidence to do so. To this day, whenever we have a bit of imposter syndrome or are nervous about an outcome, we always come back to this for that confidence.
AZF: Did you always know that you wanted to be an entrepreneur? If not, when did you realize that it was the right path right for you?
KF: I did! I actually wanted to open a sports bar when I was in college but didn’t have the confidence or the mentorship/support to make it happen. I fell into corporate recruiting but always knew deep inside I wanted to do my own thing. Over the years, we talked about starting our own company but never had the courage. Then one day, we decided, if not now, when? So we made the leap and it’s been the best decision of our lives!
AZF: How do you feel best supported?
KF: Through community. One of the biggest transitions from corporate to entrepreneurship was not having the person next to you to bounce ideas off of. I quickly realized I needed to find a way to make those connections happen, so I didn’t feel so alone. Through community, I have made those connections and have learned a ton and have great partners that support one another in our dreams.
AZF: What motivates you to keep going amidst the challenges that come with being an entrepreneur?
KF: Knowing there’s always another opportunity waiting. Every setback is a chance to fail fast, learn, and grow. The journey isn’t about perfection – it’s about resilience, embracing lessons, and staying focused on the bigger picture. Each challenge is just a stepping stone to something greater.
AZF: Describe your perfect Saturday morning.
KF: I live for a long walk to coffee and a “special drink” with my girls and husband.
AZF: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to a young entrepreneur who is just starting out?
KF: Try it. Take the chance. Many of us are taught to work for someone else because it feels safer, but the truth is, failure can happen anywhere – even in a “stable” job. Why not take the chance on yourself? If it doesn’t work out, you can always do something else. Trust your instincts, take the risk, and bet on your own potential.
AZF: What excites you most about being an entrepreneur?
KF: Being an entrepreneur excites me because it allows us to create our own story – building something meaningful from the ground up and shaping a path that reflects our values and vision. There’s always something new to learn, challenges to tackle, and opportunities to seize.
Most importantly, it gives me the flexibility to be present for our two young daughters. I hope one day they will see I had the courage to take a chance on myself, and they will have the confidence to do the same, if they so choose. I want them to know that anything is possible if they have the passion and determination.
