AZF: What is your “life motto?”
JK: People are my purpose – photography is just the vehicle. My mission is to create an experience where every person feels seen, valued, and empowered, capturing images that elevate their confidence, brand, and story with lasting impact.
AZF: Did you always know that you wanted to be an entrepreneur? If not, when did you realize that it was the right path right for you?
JK: I never had a clear vision of what I wanted to be growing up, I simply assumed I’d build a career in the corporate world, wherever that path took me. In 2005, when my husband and I started a wedding photography business, I discovered my passion not just for photography, but for entrepreneurship.
What truly drew me in was the ability to build meaningful relationships with people. That natural gift became the driving force behind my dedication to refining my craft and learning the ins and outs of running a business. Entrepreneurship is an ever-evolving journey, and I embrace the constant growth, both as a photographer and a business owner.
AZF: How do you feel best supported?
JK: Personally, I feel most supported when my family and friends recognize my efforts and take pride in my accomplishments. Their encouragement fuels my passion and keeps me motivated.
Professionally, I thrive when surrounded by like-minded entrepreneurs who uplift, challenge, and inspire me. Having a network of peers who offer valuable insights, mentorship, and encouragement – knowing they believe in me and my vision – gives me the confidence to keep growing and building.
AZF: What motivates you to keep going amidst the challenges that come with being an entrepreneur?
JK: Knowing the real impact my work has on my clients and their businesses. Seeing how my photography helps them grow, build confidence, and elevate their brand pushes me to continuously refine my skills, expand my knowledge, and overcome any obstacles in my way.
Beyond that, I’m deeply inspired by being a role model for my teenage daughter. I want her to see firsthand what it means to build something with passion, persistence, and resilience. Watching me navigate the ups and downs of entrepreneurship teaches her that success comes from hard work, continuous learning, and the courage to push forward, no matter the challenges.
AZF: Describe your perfect Saturday morning.
JK: My perfect Saturday morning starts with waking up naturally – no alarm clock, though my internal clock still gets me up around 7 a.m. I enjoy a slow, leisurely coffee, savoring the quiet moments, and the best part is knowing there’s nothing I *have* to do.
I intentionally keep my weekends as a time for rest and family, allowing me to recharge and reset. That way, when Monday rolls around, I’m energized, focused, and ready to give my best to my business and clients.
AZF: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to a young entrepreneur who is just starting out?
JK: My advice for someone just starting their business is to stay deeply connected to the passion that inspired them to begin. That passion should be strong enough to fuel you through the challenges, setbacks, and growing pains that come with entrepreneurship. When things get tough – and they will – your passion will be the driving force that keeps you moving forward, learning, and pushing through the hard moments. Let it be your foundation and motivation as you build something meaningful.
AZF: What excites you most about being an entrepreneur?
JK: The ability to create more than just beautiful images. I get to craft powerful visual stories that elevate my clients’ brands and businesses. It’s incredibly rewarding to see someone light up when they see the best version of themselves captured in a way they never have before. Beyond the artistry, what truly drives me is knowing that these images serve a greater purpose.
Every photograph I create is a strategic tool, helping business owners attract their ideal clients, strengthen their brand presence, and ultimately see a return on their investment. Whether it’s a polished headshot that builds trust, a branding session that showcases their expertise, or dynamic marketing visuals that engage their audience, my work directly contributes to their success.
Being an entrepreneur allows me the freedom to work closely with each client, understand their unique story, and bring their vision to life. The impact of what I do goes beyond a single photoshoot. It’s about empowering business owners with images that not only make them look amazing but also help them grow and thrive. Seeing my clients gain confidence, visibility, and momentum in their businesses because of the work we create together is what makes this journey so fulfilling.
