Afiniki (Afi) Maita is the founder of Afi Like Taffy.
“I’m a wardrobe stylist, image consultant & influencer based in Scottsdale,” says Maita. “I help women shop for clothes and put together outfits to look and feel like their best confident selves.”
AZF: Tell us about your business!
Afi: Crediting my international businessman Father for my love of fashion, watching him order bespoke suits from London grew my love for textures, patterns & styling. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Media Studies in the UK, I moved to Arizona 15 years ago for love & found my calling as a style advisor & worked for over 10 years in luxury retail. I created my styling business two years ago called Afi Like Taffy.
AZF: What is your life motto?
Afi: “Better to be over-prepared than under-prepared” and “it is what it is.”
AZF: Did you always know that you wanted to be an entrepreneur? If not, when did you realize that it was the right path for you?
Afi: The pandemic woke me up to life as I used the time during furlough from my corporate job to make a plan knowing I’d been too safe & comfortable for 10 years! I created a business plan in three months, executed my exit & began as a stylist on my own.
AZF: How do you feel best supported?
Afi: Referrals & testimonials are the best support I can get it’s the best compliment & support to me as it helps bring in more business.
AZF: What motivates you to keep going amidst the challenges that come with being an entrepreneur?
Afi: My why & the rush of a satisfied client when I’ve done my job well, who feels more confident after I’ve helped them transform their look & ultimately confidence & life!
AZF: Describe your perfect Saturday morning.
Afi: Lie in with the husband then a ride around the canal for brekkie at a local cafe with pancakes & guava mimosas included!
AZF: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to a young entrepreneur who is just starting out?
Afi: When you feel yourself wanting to give up remember where you used to be & use that fire of never wanting to return to motivate you to keep going!
AZF: What excites you most about being an entrepreneur?
Afi: I love being in charge, setting a plan & executing in & keeping the $$ helps too!
