Dana Maciag is the owner of AZ Sleepy Teepee.
“We are a luxury sleepover, glamping, picnic and event rental business for kids and adults.”
AZF: What is your “life motto”?
DM: Memento Mori. After a recent health scare, this stoic quote has really grown on me. It means, “Remember, you’ll die.” In other words, live every day like it’s your last. Fabulous advice.
AZF: Did you always know that you wanted to be entrepreneur? If not, when did you realize that it was the right path right for you?
DM: I was a teacher for 9 years and then left to be a Muralist. The teepee business started several years later when my daughter was turning 10 and wanted a big sleepover bash for her birthday. Since then, 6 years ago, it has grown into a full time business for our family. I have always been an artist and teaching helped me realize that I would rather be in control of my destiny.
AZF: How do you feel best supported?
DM: Being able to talk with other entrepreneurs about the challenges we face and bonding over the ups and downs of owning your own business.
AZF: What motivates you to keep going amidst of the challenges that come with being an entrepreneur?
DM: Making kids happy, being able to set my own schedule and building a little empire with my family.
AZF: Describe your perfect Saturday morning.
DM: Well, we are usually working events on Saturdays, so Monday would be my Saturday. My Husband and I hike/exercise and go to brunch. We attempt to do anything but work!!!
AZF: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to a young entrepreneur who is just starting out?
DM: Don’t give up on yourself! Self belief is paramount to becoming a successful entrepreneur.
