Nancy Ham is the owner and head esthetician of Gameela Skin, a Scottsdale-based skincare salon.
“I’m a licensed esthetician and have been serving the community of Phoenix for over 15 years now. I’m all about helping you find your confidence by enhancing your natural beauty. I love being able to make people feel better about themselves through the various services I offer and watching them step back into the world and be more confident.”
AZF: What is your “life motto”
NH: Be your most authentic self and the rest will fall into place.
AZF: Did you always know that you wanted to be entrepreneur? If not, when did you realize that it was the right path right for you?
NH: No I really didn’t think entrepreneurship was the path for me. I believe that I started to get the nudge that it was the direction I should be heading when I was getting sick of being told what to do from people that had no idea what they were talking about. I was working at a corporate spa and was getting increasingly frustrated with the direction I was receiving and was overall miserable. One thing led to another and it was like I was almost thrown into going out on my own and I just went with it, and here I am today glad I don’t have anyone telling me what to do but dang can someone tell me what to do haha. Best decision ever though I wouldn’t change a thing.
AZF: How do you feel best supported?
NH: Feeling supported as an entrepreneur involves mentorship, networking, access to resources, emotional support, continuous learning and maintaining a work-life balance as much as possible. These elements collectively contribute to my growth, success, and overall well-being in the business world.
AZF: What motivates you to keep going amidst of the challenges that come with being an entrepreneur?
NH: I feel like my biggest motivation to keep going amidst of challenges is the satisfaction of helping others, and making a positive impact on their lives. It is not just about beauty services for me, it is about pouring into my clients and making them feel more confident as they step back into the real world. Surrounding myself with like-minded people who believe in me and my vision helps me stay motivated and remind me that I am not alone in this journey. Overall the combination of helping others feel good about themselves as well as the opportunity for personal growth and the support of my network really helps me move forward and stay motivated.
AZF: Describe your perfect Saturday morning.
NH: More like Sunday morning for me haha, but getting up early, walking my dogs, taking them to go get coffee from Dutch Bros for me and they get their puppuccino, then a boot camp with my favorite Peloton instructor.
AZF: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to a young entrepreneur who is just starting out?
NH: Surround yourself with a group of people (like the women I surround myself with in the foundress) who can support you, uplift you and help guide you in the right direction. Being around like-minded people is extremely important when you are an entrepreneur.
