AZF: What is your “life motto?”
KM: What you choose to focus on becomes your reality.
AZF: Did you always know that you wanted to be an entrepreneur? If not, when did you realize that it was the right path right for you?
KM: I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit. I’ve had a job since I was 15. Growing up, I loved playing shopkeeper, and in high school, my best friend and I would always talk about having our own store one day. However, it took me 20 years of working in the corporate world at Gap Inc. and Lululemon to finally take the leap. It was a scary step, but I knew that all the experience and knowledge I gained from those companies would help me build something of my own.
AZF: How do you feel best supported?
KM: I feel best supported when I’m surrounded by a great team that I trust, both personally and professionally. It’s important to me to be able to ask for help when needed, and it means a lot when someone notices even the small things and steps in to lend a hand. Knowing that I have people I can rely on makes all the difference.
AZF: What motivates you to keep going amidst the challenges that come with being an entrepreneur?
KM: What motivates me is knowing that there’s a team that depends on me and that I’m creating a space where people can take time for themselves, both physically and mentally. The thought that we can be a bright spot in someone’s day drives me to push through any obstacles. I am also a Type-A perfectionist, so constantly striving to do more feels like it’s in my DNA.
AZF: Describe your perfect Saturday morning.
KM: My perfect Saturday morning starts with a good cup of coffee, followed by a Pure Barre workout to get my body moving. After that, I love spending quality time with my kids and husband, enjoying each other’s company without feeling rushed. If we can get outdoors, whether it’s for a walk, a hike, or just some fresh air, it makes the morning even better.
AZF: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to a young entrepreneur who is just starting out?
KM: Embrace failure as a stepping stone, not a setback. I’ve learned and grown the most when I have failed. Don’t hesitate to ask for help when you need it – collaboration and learning from others are key. And most importantly, keep trying. Persistence and resilience are what ultimately lead to success.
AZF: What excites you most about being an entrepreneur?
KM: The opportunity to be deeply involved in our members’ journeys, helping them feel stronger and more empowered. I love building a sense of community within our studios and developing future leaders on our team. It’s incredibly rewarding to know that I’m making a positive impact on someone’s day by helping them leave our studio feeling better than when they arrived.
I also love the freedom and responsibility that comes with being my own boss. At the end of the day, I answer to myself, which drives me to constantly improve and push the business forward.
