A typical day in my life includes… waking up early, getting in some reading, exercise, quiet time, and a few moments with my kids and wife before their day starts. Then I’m off to the office where I spend my time working with the most inspiring teammates to reverse the youth mental health crisis.
I was born… in Minnesota, grew up in Peru
My favorite thing about Arizona… is the weather
I’m listening to… Jason Isbell
My family… is most important, after my relationship with Jesus
If I could have dinner with anyone, it would be… with my wife, Maria-Paz
One thing I cannot live without… is forgiveness
When I was younger, I wanted to be… Jean Claude Van Damme
I’m inspired by… anyone who is doing or has done hard things, and is serving others
The one person who motivates me is… forget motivation, discipline is freedom
If I could change anything in the world, it would be… more compassion
The perfect day would be… in heaven
My first job was… a bus boy
My favorite escape… is to our small Payson cabin with family
My life… is focused on “integration” vs. striving for a “work-life” balance
I’m currently working on… doing better and being better in all areas of life
Always…make the most of what you have
Never… say never
Favorite Quote… But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint.
Biggest Dream… is to reverse the youth mental health crisis
My Pet Peeve(s)… is a can’t do attitude because anything is possible
Bio-on yourself/company: Alex Stavros is the chief executive officer at Embark Behavioral Health, a national organization that has set out on a big goal to reverse our nation’s youth mental health crisis. For more than a decade, the team and organization he serves has been committed to addressing the mental health challenges of America’s youths. Prior to Embark, Alex was the founder and managing partner of a social investment fund focused on acquiring and leading mission-driven businesses. While at Stanford University, he earned a master’s degree specializing in social entrepreneurship and a public management certificate. He was also a rising fellow at the Hoover Institution, a world-renowned public policy think tank. Prior to graduate school he worked for a consulting firm to endowments and foundations. At American University he studied international relations and economic theory. Alex’s childhood shaped his professional and personal aspirations. As the son of missionaries, Alex grew up in Peru, living and playing alongside the youths and orphans of Lima. Alex is passionate about the topic of happiness versus joy and the idea of using business as a force for good ─ how “doing good” is good business.
