There is something very special about Kimpton Hotel Palomar Phoenix. While the Downtown Phoenix hotel certainly attracts 20somethings looking for a good time thanks to the rooftop pool and Best of Our Valley-winning LUSTRE Rooftop Bar, it is undeniable family-friendly as well.
The rooms at Hotel Palomar are sleek and colorful, many offering fantastic skyline views of arenas and venues that are within walking distance. While there are too many things to see and do nearby (you can even borrow a hotel bike for exploring) to sit in your room for too long, the accommodations do allow comfort and relaxation in between jaunts or for a post-pool nap. One of Hotel Palomar’s most thoughtful details is the addition of an in-room goldfish that kids can’t get enough of.
In the morning, guests are invited to the lobby for complimentary coffee and tea (there is even cold brew on tap) and wine and flatbreads in the evenings. In between, the best way to soak up the summer is at the third-floor rooftop pool. The pool area, and pool itself, is just big enough—large enough that you have plenty of room to sprawl out on the loungers or hammock but small enough that you can easily keep an eye on littles and not feel overwhelmed. Depending on the day, feast your ears on live music at LUSTRE and dig into a margarita or two. And the position of the pool offers plenty of shade in the afternoons so you’re not scalding while you’re soaking.
When mealtime strikes, dinner at Blue Hound Kitchen + Cocktails should kick off with corn grit fries with smoked bacon and white cheddar and the BHKC chopped salad, a divine medley of fregola, pepitas, avocado, dried corn, cotija, avocado and baby tomatoes. The diver scallops make the perfect (and pretty) summer repast with spring peas, farmer’s vegetables and bits of pancetta. And if you didn’t throw back too many margs at the pool, Blue Hound’s cocktail list of the stuff of legends with unique concoctions you won’t find anywhere else.
