Gateway Airport recently debuted its new $28 million concourse, bringing flyers modern amenities and services for a more seamless travel experience just in time for the peak of spring travel to the Phoenix-Mesa area.
The 30,000-square-foot concourse features five new gates, along with restaurant and retail space and a tech lounge. The new terminal also meets modern airport criteria, including energy efficiency, updated infrastructure and increased accessibility for passengers with disabilities.
The permanent concourse marks a big milestone in Gateway Airport’s efforts to continue to serve its growing number of passengers and provide flyers with a comfortable space as they travel to and from the East Valley. Gateway Airport has experienced rapid growth since the start of its commercial passenger service in 2007 and has been operating out of a portable 10,000-square-foot annex since 2008 as a short-term solution to its early increased flight demand.
A recent $14.4 million federal grant under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) has allowed Gateway Airport to expand into a much-needed permanent terminal. The new concourse has been under construction for over a year and is now open to the public, bringing travelers a proper terminal building with optimal space and ample dining and retail options.
Flyers can now enjoy a grab-and-go market selling convenience items and goods local to Arizona, outdoor spaces such as an animal relief area and patio, electronic-friendly seating areas, nursing stations and multiple restaurants, including Macayo’s Mexican Food, Panera Bread, Queen Creek Olive Mill, Infusion Coffee & Tea Crafters and O.H.S.O Brewery. New shops include Saguaro Mercantile, which offers regional and local gifts and travel essentials, and Trip Advisor, where flyers can find airport travel essentials and gifts, as well as an innovative touchscreen kiosk with tourism information.
Gateway Airport currently offers non-stop direct flights to over 45 destinations across the country and welcomes nearly two million passengers each year, which has helped it become one of the fastest-growing commercial service airports in the nation.
