With a total of 38,846,713 passengers in 2021, Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX) is one of the largest U.S. airports by number of passengers.
To determine the ranking of the 20 largest U.S. airports, The Wall Street Journal looked at multiple factors, including on-time arrivals, security, ticket prices and customer satisfaction.
San Francisco International Airport (SFO) topped the list at No. 1 with a great score for reliability. The high-traffic airport has had an 80% on-time rate since travel began again in 2021 after the pandemic.
Atlanta (ATL), Minneapolis (MSP) and Detroit (DTW) follow, respectively. All three scored highly for reliability, while Minneapolis and Detroit scored well for convenience, too.
Phoenix Sky Harbor completes the top five list of the best largest U.S. airports, earning scores over 50 for reliability, value and convenience and scoring higher in the value category than the top four airports: San Francisco, Atlanta, Mineaoplois and Detroit.
Dubbed “America’s Friendliest Airport,” Sky Harbor serves the greater Phoenix area with over 1,000 flights daily to more than 120 domestic and international destinations. PHX is also within minutes from Downtown Phoenix and offers transportation, such as the new PHX Sky Train, making it highly convenient for travelers.
Customers can choose from 20 airlines and enjoy a large selection of dining and shopping experiences located within the airport’s terminals.
