The Mirage began as the first Las Vegas Strip megaresort and now after 34 years, the beloved resort will be re-imagined into Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and Guitar Hotel Las Vegas. Starting July 17, The Mirage will cease its operation and construction will begin.

With their new ownership of the hotel, Hard Rock plans to build a nearly 700-foot guitar-shaped hotel in place of The Mirage resort. Hard Rock plans to “dramatically reimagine every aspect of the resort and change the Las Vegas skyline,” according to a company announcement. The new hotel is set to look in a similar style to the Hard Rock Hotel in Hollywood, Fla.

Hard Rock International paid more than $1 billion for operating assets of The Mirage. The new space will add 1.3 million square feet to the current hotel. Within the 700-foot-guitar, Hard Rock hopes to build 660 hotel suites, 49,000 square feet of gaming space, and 96,000 square feet of retail and restaurants. Amenities such as a pool, spa, fitness center and salon will also be available for guests.

“We’d like to thank the Las Vegas community and team members for warmly welcoming Hard Rock after enjoying 34 years at The Mirage,” says Jim Allen, chairman of Hard Rock International.

The Mirage’s legacy will never be forgotten. The resort began as the Strip’s first megaresort. For years, the resort hosted Siegfried & Roy white tigers. The resort is home to one of the most iconic shows on the Strip, the Cirque du Soleil show “The Beatles LOVE at The Mirage.” The 18-year show is set to end on July 7 right before the resort closure.

The new hotel is expected to double the number of jobs at The Mirage for the Las Vegas Community. Guests who have reservations beyond July 14 will have their reservations canceled. The newly re-imagined Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and Guitar Hotel Las Vegas is scheduled to open in May 2027.
