World’s Biggest Cruise Ship Prepares to Set Sail

Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas is set to be the world’s largest cruise ship. After successfully sailing the open ocean during the initial round of its sail trials, the all-new mega vacation ship is one step closer to welcoming guests on board for its iconic debut in January 2024.

The highly-anticipated ship has recently completed construction at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland, where a team of More than 450 specialists ran four days of preliminary tests on the ship’s technical areas, such as the main engines, bow and propellers and the noise and vibration levels, to prepare for the next important steps in Icon’s journey to completion.

After passing its first test at sea, the boat’s lineup of the latest technology will be put to the test again in a second round of sea trials later this year before it begins its seven-night vacation voyages from Miami to the Eastern and Western Caribbean.

As the first of its kind, Icon is nearly 1,200 feet long with 20 decks and eight different neighborhoods, including the largest waterpark to date on a cruise ship featuring six record-breaking waterslides.

When it finally makes its debut in 2024, the massive cruise ship will comfortably fit over 5,000 guests and over 2,000 crew members, who will have access to seven stunning pools, nine hot tubs, as well as more than 40 ways to dine, drink and be entertained, which include the ship’s resort getaway and beach escape, plus its family-friendly areas like the theme park adventure and adults-only spaces like a dueling piano bar.

Icon offers 28 different types of accommodations that have been thoughtfully-designed with families in mind complete with expansive balconies, spacious rooms and over-the-top features and amenities, including unbelievable ocean views, floor-to-ceiling windows and more. For the ultimate vacation at sea, families can book the first-ever Ultimate Family Townhouse that boasts three levels connected by an indoor spiral slide.

Beginning in 2024, Icon will sail 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean vacations from Miami all year, stopping at destinations like Royal Caribbean’s award-winning private island destination, Perfect Day at CocoCay, The Bahamas; Cozumel, Mexico; Philipsburg, St. Maarten; and Roatan, Honduras.
