Colorado’s The Springs Resort Announces Transformative Expansion

The Springs Resort, an award-winning geothermal wellness destination in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, has announced an exciting expansion to debut in April 2025. Known for housing the world’s deepest geothermal spring, affectionately called “The Mother Spring,” the resort continues its commitment to Soakology: The Nature of Wellness, a unique approach to geothermal relaxation and well-being.

This expansion will include relocating its spa, doubling terraced geothermal mineral soaking pools along the San Juan River at the base of the Rocky Mountains, and adding 78 new guest rooms. The renovation will also introduce a new thermal spa, a Panoramic Sauna featuring halotherapy, and other wellness amenities, all curated under the guidance of the resort’s Vice President of Wellness Sharon Holtz and Medical Director Dr. Marcus Coplin, ND.

To enhance the guest experience further, the resort will launch an innovative culinary concept, Wild Finch, in May. It will also create event spaces for meetings and special occasions.

Every pool in the expansion has been thoughtfully crafted to provide a unique wellness experience. Guests can expect soothing sounds of flowing water, breathtaking views of the San Juan Mountains, reflexology pathways, and the therapeutic benefits of immersive contrast bathing. These pools and water features will include a dedicated wellness activity pool, which will offer various guided water-based wellness experiences like aqua yoga, aqua floating meditation, warrior plunge (a contrast bathing experience with a cold plunge), aqua sound bathing, aqua soak and stretch, and a detox contrast circuit.

Other highlights of the expansion include the grotto, a secluded geothermal pool, contrast falls where hot geothermal water meets cold river water, and cold rush, where guests can engage with the waters of the San Juan River.

The reflexology walk will enhance circulation and promote full-body balance. A new adults-only serene retreats area and a family-friendly zone will ensure that wellness is accessible for all guests. The resort’s panoramic sauna will also be part of the new expansion, available to resort members and day guests.

Guests seeking more active experiences will find a dedicated movement, yoga studio, and outdoor activity areas. The nearby hiking and biking trails, including local attractions like the San Juan River Walk, Treasure Falls, and Chimney Rock National Monument, will further connect to Pagosa Springs’ stunning natural landscape.

A key feature is transforming the resort’s spa into a two-level, geothermal-inspired sanctuary. The design, featuring handcrafted stonework and mountain views, reflects the region’s rugged beauty. With 12 treatment rooms and a dedicated couples’ suite, the spa promises an unparalleled wellness experience.

The social wellness level will include the panoramic sauna with halotherapy, a salt therapy treatment designed to promote respiratory health. The salt-infused microclimate helps ease respiratory conditions and fosters a deep sense of relaxation. Additional guided aromatherapy sauna experiences will promote various sensations, from invigoration to deep relaxation. The spa will also feature a thermal studio where guests can experience the mother’s mud treatment.

The meditative level offers outdoor geothermal and indoor treatment pools featuring waterfall spouts and jets, allowing guests to prepare for their treatments. With the guidance of Dr. Marcus Coplin, ND, the resort integrates evidence-based wellness practices, emphasizing the therapeutic benefits of hydrotherapy and mineral water bathing. A range of wellness services – aromatherapy, reflexology, scalp treatments, dry brushing, body wraps, hydrotherapy – are offered.

The expansion also elevates guest comfort with luxurious accommodations, including spacious king rooms and two-bedroom suites with full kitchens. Each will offer sweeping views of the San Juan River and the surrounding landscape. Guests will enjoy 24-hour access to the pools and the adults-only relaxation terrace, a sleep ritual tray, and pre- and post-check-in soaking opportunities.

The culinary experience at The Springs Resort is set to be redefined with the opening of Wild Finch in May 2025. Inspired by the vibrant American Goldfinch, the restaurant will offer a menu crafted with locally sourced, seasonally inspired ingredients. Guests can expect dishes such as scallop crudo, chicken fried elk, and tooth & gill risotto featuring local mushrooms. In addition to house cocktails like The Peak and Capstone, Wild Finch will also feature zero-proof options such as Black Swan and Sprinkles.

Another new feature is 1881 Poolside Provisions, a casual poolside dining experience offering shareable plates, cocktails, and a rotating selection of beer and wine. This concept will give guests a laid-back dining option that complements their wellness journey. With the introduction of these new features and services, The Springs Resort is set to redefine the wellness and relaxation experience. For more information, visit pagosahotsprings.com.
