This weekend, the local community has the opportunity to taste the innovative creations from one of the most celebrated cocktail bars in the world right here in the Valley at Century Grand’s Platform 18.
Rayo Cocktail Bar, a renowned establishment in Mexico City’s Roma Norte district, is taking over Platform 18 on Sunday, November 5 to bring guests its distinct cocktail experience and exclusive offerings. Plus, Rayo’s head bartender, Alvaro Garcia Arroyo, will teach a masterclass to the Phoenix community the next day on Monday, November 6.
Known for narrating stories through distinctive cocktails, Rayo Cocktail Bar draws inspiration from the legend of Mayahuel, a pre-Columbian goddess who is associated with the creation of the agave plant and the first fermented agave drink. Rayo’s cocktail program stays true to its roots by incorporating indigenous Mexican ingredients along with global flavors and utilizing premium distillates from local and international sources. The bar’s name and logo, which features an agave sprouting from a martini glass flanked by two light rays, also reflects the team’s reverence for the folklore origination story of agave.
Rayo has recently gained notable recognition, earning the title “London Essence Best New Opening 2023” and ranking No. 17 in North America’s 50 Best Bars list, as well as No. 72 in the World’s 50 Best Bars. It has also been recognized as one of the best bars in North America by Global Traveler USA, and has received significant praise for its contribution to the vibrant Mexico City cocktail scene.
