It’s no secret that airport food isn’t exactly gourmet. Cold sandwiches and hot coffee are typically all that travelers require when hustling to their gate before their plane takes off. However, Phoenix’s own Sky Harbor International Airport wants to give its flyers a little more to look forward to when dashing and dining. The airport’s Terminal 4 is reading for a massive construction project come January 2012 that will include new, local restaurants, new technology including an iPhone App and Social Media interaction for Sky Harbor guests, new kiosk ordering and delivery systems. (While the project will provide more options for travelers, it will also open up many more job options for locals as well as more community partnerships.) The 10-year contract is expected to be worth at least $40 million to $45 million in gross sales per year.
Local restaurants/restaurateurs include:
LGO Hospitality:
La Grand Orange
Grateful Spoon Gelato
Chelsea’s Kitchen
Fox Restaurant Concepts:
Blanco Tacos & Tequila
Olive & Ivy
Sauce
Modern Burger
Barrio Cafe
NYPD
Cowboy Ciao

Others include:

Paradise Bakery (will continue operating out of Terminal 4)
Also of note, Chef Gio Osso will serve as Executive Chef for HMSHost’s restaurants in Terminals 3 and 4 at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. The position was created to enhance the travel dining experience at Sky Harbor, offering airport visitors tempting and flavorful meals when they arrive or depart.
