Bourbon Steak at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess hosts a Kentucky Derby brunch and lawn party, 1 to 5 p.m., Saturday, May 3. Guests are invited to savor the traditions of the Derby atmosphere, including frosty mint juleps, live blues music, bourbon tastings and activities on the “Winner’s Circle” lawn–plus, a divine brunch with a Southern flair. La Grande Orange Grocery presents “Napa & Beyond” a Wine Launch Party on Thursday, May 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. Reps from Madrigal Family Winery of Napa Valley (which is being reintroduced in the Phoenix market), Sbragia Family Vineyards of Dry Creek Valley, and DeLille Cellars from Woodinville Washington will be on hand to meet and greet guests. Chef Jeff Smedstad of famed Sedona restaurant, Elote, makes a trek to Scottsdale for a Cinco de Mayo culinary competition at Scottsdale’s Cowboy Ciao. On Monday, May 5, Smedstad will be a guest chef at Cowboy Ciao for a Sommelier Showdown and Chef Challenge. Pouring wines will be winemaker, Eric Glomski, of Page Springs Cellars. The five-course, 10-pairing wine dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. for $65 per person. Call 480.946.3111 to reserve your seat.
On Tuesday, May 6, from 6 to 9 p.m., guests will be treated to the rare opportunity of a barrel tasting. Eric Glomski, of Page Springs Cellars, is bringing down a barrel from his vineyard to Kazimierz World Wine Bar. For a $10 cover, guests will be able to taste and enjoy a meet-and-greet with Glomski.
