In celebration of National Taco Day on Oct. 4, Yelp released its ranking of the Top 15 Taco Towns in the country, plus a list of the Top 100 Taco Spots of 2023. To determine which restaurants would make the cut, Yelp used a variety of factors to narrow down the list. By using the number of reviews and average ratings, Yelp was able to rank the best of the best.
The list of the Top 15 Taco Towns in the U.S. featured Phoenix at #3 and Tucson at #5. The only cities ranked higher were Austin at #1, Los Angeles at #2 and Las Vegas at #4.
In Yelp’s roundup of the best 100 Taco Spots of 2023, Arizona was represented with five restaurants on the list: La Chaiteria in Tucson was #48, El Rustico in Tucson was #74, 143 Street Tacos in Sierra Vista was #79, El Fogon in Phoenix was #86 and Taco Culture Taco Shop in Phoenix was #93.
La Chaiteria is a local favorite in Downtown Tucson, receiving an average of a 4.7 rating on Yelp. The restaurant is famous for its vegetarian and vegan Latin dishes.
Near the University of Arizona campus, El Rustico is an authentic hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant that serves up breakfast, lunch and dinner.
143 Street Tacos is in Sierra Vista, less than an hour from the Mexican border. This small spot is popular for its variety of tacos, burritos and even Sonoran dogs.
El Fogon serves Mexican dishes, seafood and cocktails in Phoenix from breakfast to dinner. The restaurant’s authentic fare is served with plenty of sauce and sides.
Taco Culture Taco Shop, also in Phoenix, serves simple but delicious tacos. The mom-and-pop restaurant proudly serves filling burritos, quesadillas, sopes and especially street tacos.
