With one just celebrating its opening and one on the way, the Valley is home to two new taco joints that should be on your to-try radar.
As part of its dramatic redevelopment, Scottsdale Fashion Square will welcome LA-based Toca Madera in the coming months, which will be the third location beyond its West Hollywood flagship and international outpost in Dubai. Toca Madera reimagines traditional Mexican cuisine with a modern approach, pairing locally-sourced ingredients with bold flavors. The menu will have an emphasis on organic ingredients as well as will feature extensive vegan and gluten-free options. Popular dishes at the WeHo oupost include American Wagyu Beef, Ensenada-style Fish Tacos, Chipotle-Dusted Tofu Tostadas, Enchiladas de Mole and the Churro Ice Cream Sandwich.
A collaboration between chef Suny Santana, artist Gennaro Garcia and restaurateur Aaron Chamberlin (of St. Francis and Phoenix Public Market Cafe), Taco Chelo (pictured) is now open in the Roosevelt Row district and already creating a presence on social media thanks to its colorful interiors and picturesque eats. The menu is an homage to Chef Suny’s heritage with a concise selection of tacos, vegetables and beverages. Stop in for a fish or carnitas taco, paired with the La Migra margarita and followed by a sweet helping of flan.
