PHX Beer Co. is honoring recently retired Phoenix Suns broadcaster Al McCoy with a special beer named “Shazaaam! Valley Style IPA.”
There will be 51 cases of the limited-edition beer available as a tribute to the 51 years McCoy worked as a commentator for the Suns.
Shazaaam! Valley Style IPA will only be available at PHX Beer Co.’s two locations. The beer is currently on draft at PHX Beer Co.’s Scottsdale restaurant and brewery at 8300 N. Hayden Road, and is also available on draft and for purchase in four-packs at the Phoenix taphouse located at 3002 E. Washington St.
The special-edition beer of PHX Beer Co.’s Monsoon IPA comes in a can featuring Suns colors and McCoy’s signature catchphrase, “Shazaaam!”
This is not the first time PHX Beer Co. has released a limited-edition Phoenix Suns beer. The brewery launched a similar concept to honor the 2021 Suns team that made it to the NBA finals.
McCoy has earned numerous honors throughout his career, including induction into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame and a banner in the Phoenix Suns Ring of Honor.
“I put him up there with Vin Scully and Ernie Harwell, and all the greats, all the legends,” says ESPN’s Mike Breen during the 2021 NBA finals.
McCoy has been the voice of the Suns since 1972 and retired following the end of the 2022–23 season.
