Recipes: National Grilled Cheese Day

April 12 marks National Grilled Cheese Day! To celebrate this momentous occasion (grilled cheese ranks among Americans’ top 10 favorite comfort foods, after all), Sara Lee partnered celebrity chef Katie Lee on these delicious, epic grilled cheese mashups.

Katie Lee’s Parm-tastic Pizza Grilled Cheese
Servings: 2
Time: 11-20 Minutes
4 slices Sara Lee® Artesano™ Bakery Bread
½ stick unsalted butter, at room temperature
¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
¼ cup marinara sauce
4 slices Provolone cheese
12 slices pepperoni
¼ cup chopped banana peppers
¼ cup caramelized onions
4 slices Mozzarella cheese
1. Heat a large skillet over medium-low heat. Spread the butter on one side of each slice of bread. Sprinkle with the grated Parmesan, lightly pressing the Parmesan into the butter so it sticks.
2. Lay 2 slices of the bread buttered/cheese-side down in the skillet and spread one tablespoon of the marinara on each. Top each with two slices of Provolone, followed by six slices of pepperoni, half of the banana peppers and caramelized onions and two slices of Mozzarella. Spread the remaining marinara on the unbuttered side of the remaining two slices of bread, then place one slice of bread on top of each sandwich with the buttered/cheese side facing up.
3. Cook until golden brown, approximately three to four minutes per side. Slice and serve.

Chocolate Hazelnut Strawberry Grilled Cheese by Katie Lee
Servings: 2
Time: 1-10 Minutes
4 slices Sara Lee® Artesano™ Bakery Bread
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
4 tablespoons chocolate hazelnut spread
2 strawberries, thinly sliced
4 tablespoons cream cheese, softened
1. Spread butter on one side of each slice of bread. Spread half of the chocolate hazelnut spread onto the other side of 2 slices of bread. Top with a layer of strawberries. Spread cream cheese on the other two slices of bread. Put the bread together to form a sandwich.
2. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Cook the sandwiches until golden brown, approximately two minutes per side.
