You know how they say not to judge a book by it’s cover? Well, I sometimes pick up wine simply because I like the name and label. It would look cute in the wine rack! And it certainly doesn’t hurt when you come across one that is great-tasting, as well. One such adorably named brand is Cupcake Vineyards and here are some bottles worth checking out this holiday season–or any time. Plus, the under-$20 price tags make them easy to stock up on for your holiday bash or for last-minute hostess gifts.
2009 Cupcake Vineyards Red Velvet A nice, season-appropriate choice, Red Velvet tastes of chocolate, blackberry and coconut. The winemaker says it is comparable to a blackberry-chocolate cupcake with a mocha coulis. A casual barbecue bacon cheeseburger or a party-perfect dark chocolate fondue are recommended food pairings. $14.
2010 Cupcake Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc This winning white has zesty lemon-lime flavors and a touch of pineapple, with the grapes hailing from Marlborough, New Zealand. The winemaker suggests pairing this bottle with scallops or a paella. $14.
2009 Cupcake Vineyards Chardonnay This elegant, creamy wine makes a great choice for holiday parties, as the chardonnay pairs well with French bread and cheese as well fete-ready crab cakes. $14.
All bottles are currently available nationwide.
