I know, I know–it’s too early to start thinking about those triple-digit Scottsdale summers. However, when that first 100-degree day shows its icky, sweaty face, there will be a new way to cool down and enjoy the summer weather: Cool Gelato Italiano, a new gelato spot in Scottsdale. Starting next month, Cool Gelato will serve hand-crafted artisan-style gelato near Scottsdale Center for the Arts. Cool Gelato is the brainchild of husband-and-wife team of Alberto della Casa and Letizia de Lucia, who, together, have had 35 years of experience in Italy’s food realm and have lived in Phoenix for the last five years.
Cool Gelato’s delicious product will be made on-site each day, ensuring that the gelato is fresh and will not require the use of preservatives. The Scottsdale spot’s gelato will also feature natural, fresh ingredients. (Did you know that gelato has less fat and fewer calories than ice cream?) Cool Gelato will spotlight 20 flavors each day, created in collaboration with a Italian Academy of Gelato-recognized gelato artisan, as well as a selection of authentic sorbet made with fresh fruits, gelato sandwiches, gelato affogato and more. “Americans who have traveled toItaly return raving not just about the Sistine Chapel or the Coliseum, but about the gelato,” Letizia says. “Once they have eaten the real thing, they understand that gelato and ice cream are two completely different things.” Cool Gelato Italiano will be located at 7373 E. Scottsdale Mall, Suite 125 in Scottsdale. www.coolgelatoitaliano.com.
