Central Phoenix is about to get even more delicious as the team of Upward Projects (you know them as the foursome behind the trio of Valley Postino restaurants, Windsor and Churn) debuts Federal Pizza Oct. 9. True to Upward Projects form, Federal Pizza will be housed in a historic building–the historic First Federal Savings & Loan building originally designed by famed architect Al Beadle. An old teller window has even been transformed into a pick-up window where people can grab their grub without leaving their car.
The menu promises to provide big healthy salads, sharable appetizers and wood-fired pizzas designed by master baker MJ Coe. The beverage program at Federal will be unique, as well, as the entire menu of beer and wine will be available to be picked up to-go–and at a discount. The wine list is described as seasonal and progressive, whereas the beers are local and regional with an emphasis on small-batch craft selections.Federal will offer custom growlers for those who want draft beer to go.
As an homage to Beadle’s original work, the interior of Federal Pizza evoke a mid-century feel with modern touches. The restaurant will highlight a 30-foot long butcher block bar, coveted eight seats that surround the wood-fired pizza oven, glass skylights and floor-to-ceiling windows. www.upwardprojects.com.
